Zhytomyr Region is located in the north-western part of central Ukraine, the northern boundary of Zhitomir region is the state border between Ukraine and Belarus. Among the minerals that occur on the territory of the Zhytomyr region non-metallic minerals are dominated, among non-metallic minerals - building sand, shale, clay, marble, semi precious stones - quartz, topaz, beryl, deposits of rare earth metals also explored on the territory of region. Economy of Zhytomyr region is represented by the enterprises of machine-building industry, chemical, pharmaceutical, mining and manufacturing industries. There are more than 100 protected nature parks and areas on the territory of Zhytomyr region.
